Weapons of Our Warfare

Jesus was driven into the wilderness for 40 days and nights to be tormented by the devil.  We think He had an advantage we don’t have, but that’s simply not true.  He emptied Himself and came in the flesh – just like us and He had to learn how to fight spiritual battles just as we do.  He fought those battles and left us His example for victory in the…

No Throne, Just Sight

Chapters 10-12 of the Gospel of Mark reveal to us how the church should operate with our eyes on spiritual things, serving in humility rather than ruling over people. We’re to be an empty vessel, ready for God to fill and use in any way He desires.  Our walk is not about gaining a throne – it’s about doing whatever God wants, where He wants it and in…

Nothing of Esau

Obadiah is a short book, but a deep reading of its single chapter can teach us much. The subject of the book is Edom. The Edomites are descended from Esau, the brother of Jacob. The Will To Do His Will

There are two spiritual kingdoms – the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. The desire to do His will is the ingrained evidence of God’s indwelling presence. The new man would want to do what pleases God. The old man cannot because it’s not under His dominion. If I want to do His will, He will lead me because I’m not in conflict with Him.

Self-Discipline

You can’t learn discipline for self without someone on the outside teaching you. Self-control (temperance) is the last of the gifts – last of the fruits that God gave us. God gave us the Holy Ghost and out of it comes fruit. We are learning absolute self-control. We learn it first by discipline that brings us to surrender. Humility brings the victory.
